Polo-action-Amity-Polo-Cup-1024x682Overcast Skies, a Royal Turnout and a hint of Mauritius on the grounds marked the day’s affairs at the season-ending Amity Polo Cup. Organisers of the season-ending Amity Polo Cup sent a flurry of prayers to quieten the Rain Gods, and for a few hours of late afternoon, it seemed that all the religiosity had paid off. After a weekend of downpour, the hints of the Sun amidst overcast skies hung over the Jaipur Polo Grounds as 61 Cavalry defeated Action polo 6-3 to clinch the 10th edition of the Amity Polo Cup.

Co-partnered by Tourism Mauritius, a shortened version of the Mauritius Spirit of Polo Cup was also played out with two women polo players leading each side – Monica Saxena and Monica Pattu – to mark International Women’s Day. The Mauritius Spirit of Polo Cup was first instituted by hospitality consultancy firm – Under One Roof Hotel Consultants – to encourage innovation in polo and to encourage more people to come, watch the game and support it. Vivek Anand, India head of Tourism Mauritius said “Mauritius is a luxurious destination so it was but natural that at some point, we had to associate in a big way with polo – you will be seeing more of us on the polo grounds, but each time, we wish to espouse a charitable cause because true luxury always has a conscience.”

Mauritius also had one more surprise up its sleeve – an award for the Most Valuable Player – won by Capt Vishal Chauhan of 61 Cavalry who will be seen enjoying his award as he relaxes at Constance Le Prince Maurice for a week, winning a vacation for 2 at the 5-star luxury resort, set amidst crystal green lagoons.

Not deterred by the overcast skies, seen enjoying the day’s polo action hosted by Amity and the vegetarian mezze platters by Zerzura were Ashok Chauhan (founder, Amity), Atul and Pooja Chauhan (VC, Amity Humanity Foundation with projects Atulasha, Amitasha), Vivek Anand (India head of Tourism Mauritius), Christophe Plantier (GM, Constance Group of Hotels – Mauritius), Rajeev Shukla (Congress MP), Lakshyaraj Singh (from Udaipur Royal family; Executive Dir of HRH Group of Hotels), Harald and Else Sandberg (Harald is the Ambassador of Sweden), Vladimir Maric (Ambassador of Serbia), Darja Bavdaz-Kuret (Ambassador of Slovenia), John Aquilina (High Commissioner of Malta), Arnaud Gaspart (First secretary, Belgium), Dr Sabit Subasic (Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina), Navneet Aggarwal (MD, Action Shoes), Shehnaz Hussain, Nikki Anand (Artist), Shivani Wazir (model and emcee), Sonia and Manu Mohindra (Under One Roof Hotel Consultants), RJs Chris and Priyanka – from Radio One, 94.3; Polo players – Amir Pasrich, Samir Suhag, Vishal Chauhan, Ravi Rathore and Monica Saxena with Monica Pattu.
