The recent launch of an exquisite bouquet hotel ‘Grande 51’ in Navi Mumbai is what keeping many food connoisseurs and food lovers rolling for the exquisite and top notch hospitality at this new venue by Thapar Hotel Inc. We, The Humming Notes, were recently invited to review the property. With much excitement and apprehension, I reached the hotel. I was taken through the luxurious suites of the hotel which are all high on technology and deliver perfect comfort and luxury. However what caught my fancy was the electronic set busy panel at the bedside that allows you to set digitally the status of your room especially ‘for the times you do not wish to be disturbed’. Mr. Satish Anand, General Manager of the hotel said, “The hotel has a lot of potential in terms of food and accommodation as the clientele we have is corporate as well as walk-ins by locals and tourists who we are a favorite of.”
I was then taken to the dining bouquet of Hotel Grande 51 by the in-house Chef Ivan C Arnold, a chef with a 30-year experience in the kitchen and have had the privilege of serving his expertise at the Singapore Diplomatic mission of the United Nations. He took me through the different restaurants at the Grande 51 and explained to me the delicacy of each one of them.
After the tour to the lively Upper Club and the well decorated and subtle Moti Mahal Grand, the king of mughlai food; Great Wall that served authentic oriental delicacies and chinese treats, I decided to enjoy the excellence at the historical setting what is correctly called the Moti Mahal Grand; a fine dining restaurant with a royal feel. But Chef Ivan decided to serve me with best of both the restaurants. Deep fried prawns, dipped in tempura and sesame batter, served with magical wafu sauce is what they call the Pop corn shrimps. A love at first bite starter that will make you gorge all of it by yourself. The irresistibly juicy shrimp and spice along with the chef’s very own secret wafu sauce creates a blast of flavour in your mouth which will compel you to let go of your strict diet and call for more shrimp awesomeness.
Next, I tried the Sea Food Rasam, a tangy sea food broth with fauna and southern spices. With a dash of tamarind, this broth was a treat to my taste buds. Every sip of the sea food delight had a surprise to it which leaves you wanting for more – a true south Indian delight. While I enjoyed the magic of the platters in front of me I was kept entertained by the lovely 70’s music that went very well with the ambience of the restaurant. Further, I tired the Dal makhani that proved to be a chest of north Indian spices with a lot of cream and smoothness of butter along with the lazeez tangdi kebabs, a platter of succulent chicken thighs stuffed with tiny morsels of chicken tikka cashews and raisins marinated in fresh cream. The tandoored chicken thighs were all I could dream of, it makes my mouth water even as I write. With a friendly environment and top notch hospitality and prompt service, Hotel Grande 51 is truly a memorable experience.
