Deriving its name from the Sanskrit word for “breathing”, the Shvasa Spa at Hyatt Regency Gurgaon inspires you to embark on a journey away from the chaos of the city and helps invigorate the senses. It aims to achieve the balance of body, mind and soul by offering health and well-being therapies.
Spread over an area of 590 sq m, the spa is an oasis of wellness, pampering and relaxation within the noise of the city.
With dedicated areas for a state of the art fitness facility, heat and water facilities, treatment rooms and a landscaped swimming pool with children’s pool, the Spa offers an array of luxury treatments for your well-being. The extensive day spa menu includes full body massage, body scrubs, body wraps, facials, manicure and pedicure. With a holistic approach to fitness, grooming and rejuvenation, the Shvasa Spa & Fitness Centre is an idyllic sanctuary that revitalises, de-stresses and aligns one’s senses. It is with this belief that I entered the spa. The design of the spa is inspired by ancient Indian architectural essence which has unique touch of carved walls and pillars. The tasteful interiors almost instantly transport you to a tranquil and mystical atmosphere of fresh energy. The artistically carved wooden trellis is a prominent feature of the treatment rooms.
I was offered a concoction of about a dozen ingredients including fenugreek, aniseed, almond and star anise that is meant to soothe frayed nerves. And over this cup of herbal tea, I discussed my treatment plan with the therapist. I chose a Shvasa Ritual massage – a complete head-to-toe overhauling. This involved a body exfoliation, body wrap and a body massage.
My therapy began with the foot ritual in the massage room itself. The therapist, Rosy, explained how the foot ritual is actually supposed to open the positive energy channel of the body and soul. My feet were cleansed with a salt scrub and some rose-water, with mild massaging along the pressure points. Next, my skin was gently ‘cleansed’ with a paste of oatmeal and rice powder mixed with honey and milk. Rice and oatmeal gently peel of dead skin, while milk and honey deeply nourish it. Since my skin was tanned and sun-burnt, some honey was also added to heal the upper layer of the skin.
This exfoliation also prepares the skin to soak in the goodness of the wrap that is to follow. After a good 40 minutes of gentle massaging, I was asked to take a shower to remove the debris. After drying my body, I felt it was squeaky clean. I was then enveloped in a paste of sandalwood powder and Fuller’s Earth or multani mitti, to draw out impurities and nourish the skin, while sandalwood refines the pores and makes the skin radiant while cooling it. I slept in this cool cocoon for about half an hour before taking a shower – this time with warm water.
Rosy came into the room with an amazing fragrance – and told me it was my massage oil – the purest sandalwood oil mixed with lavender and geranium essential oil began massaging my head and temples with an amazing smelling oil – the purest sandalwood oil I have ever come across. The massage strokes were a mix of Swedish, aromatherapy as well as Balinese. After pouring generous amounts of oil on the area to be massages, Rosy applied firm strokes to gradually massage the stress out of my every pore. The massage was done on my head as well – but not vigorously – just fingertips working on the right pressure points for a good half an hour.
Finally it was time to get into the steam room. Infused with an aroma of jasmine, eucalyptus and geranium, the steam bath was essential for the skin to absorb the oil and the micro-nutrients of the natural products applied on my body.
After spending about 20 minutes in the steam bath, I was asked to take a cold shower for the pores to seal in the moisture. A warm cup of herbal tea at the front office and a mild foot pressing helped me relax my self.
It was a truly relaxing experience as I drifted in and out of sleep during my three-hour session. My hair smelt of the fragrant sandalwoodlavender geranium fragrance for days after my treatment.
