With nearly 600 members and delegations invited from places such as Belarus, Chicago, Paris, Fiji, Mauritius, China and several others, the Indian Diaspora Club, outreach partners of the first Pravasi Haryana Divas (PHD) proved that members of the Indian Diaspora have strong affiliations for their roots.
Union Minister Smriti Irani formally inaugurated the two-day event on January 11, in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, Minister of Commerce & Industry Shri Vipul Goel and several other dignitaries.
The objective of the PHD is to recognise the achievements of NRIs and to harness their energies in the future development of Haryana. This initiative will include organizing Sectoral Sessions, technical presentations, cultural evening and one to one business meetings. Prominent personalities such as filmmaker Subhash Ghai, beautician Vandana Luthra, actor Randeep Hooda, US-based Dr Nandini Tandon, US-based philanthropist Shri Rajmal Parekh, Mr Sanjeev Khanna (of the GS Dallas group) and several others graced the event organised at Kingdom of Dreams in Gurugram.
Prominent among those to be awarded during the event included Shri BK Chawla, father of astronaut Kalpana Chawla; former PM of Fiji, Shri Mahendra Pal Chaudhary; Padma Shri Awardee Shri Ashok Mago; Shri Sanjeeb Chauhan – who were all conferred the Haryana Gaurav Samman by CM Shri ML Khattar. Speaking on the occasion, the CM said, “24 MoUs involving potential investment of Rs 20000 crore have been signed during Pravasi Haryana Divas and employment opportunities for 43000 individuals have been generated.”
Lauding the efforts of the Indian Diaspora Club, Lord Raj Loomba, prominent UK businessman and Chairperson of the Loomba Foundation said, “It is to the credit of the Indian Diaspora Club helmed by Rajat Kapoor that Indians abroad can sit together under one roof and engage with the government to make fruitful contributions for the development and upliftment of India.”
Shri Ashok Mago, commenting on the first Pravasi Haryana Divas said, “I would give all my wishes and blessings to the Indian Diaspora Club and Rajat Kapoor to connect all Indian states with its diaspora members abroad. The states should organise events to be able to get their resident Indians abroad to participate in the growth models.”
Mr Rajat Kapoor, Convenor and Founder Member of The Indian Diaspora Club said, “The Indian Diaspora Club is committed to be a platform for, link between and a facilitator to develop symbiotic relationship between Indian Diaspora and their ancestral land. Through diverse initiatives and activities that include promotion of tourism, hospitality, cuisines, trades, famous personalities, ancestral linkages, languages, films, documentaries, dance forms , traditional cultures, the Indian Diaspora Club wishes to develop exchange of ideas for convergent and inclusive development. For us sense of fulfilment is above achievement.”
