I firmly believe that you can’t get away with treating your skin badly and then expect make-up to do wonders for you. It won’t. The base of good make-up is a healthy, hydrated skin. I usually opt for a foundation that has skin-brightening properties, if not a highlighter – anything that makes your skin dewy. Apply bright shiny white eye shadow or even a champagne colored eye shadow paired with precise thick upper eyeliner to make your eyes look sparkly. I finish my eyes with some volumizing mascara – especially on the lower lashes. Peach with some highlights is my favourite blush colour. A glossy nude lip colour completes the look. I recently tried Revlon Cocoa Craving when I went for Roberto Cavalli’s store opening and I realized its rose brown colour goes very well with all types of makeup. So that has become my go-to lipstick.

Deepika Padukone

I don’t wear make-up unless I absolutely have to. I’ll just wear mascara and a Neutrogena lip balm with SPF. Makeup should be used to enhance one’s natural features, not change it completely. I am careful to highlight one feature at a time when applying make up – either eyes or lips, never both. I love taupe and brown eye shadows, so I can sometimes risk colouring my lips with darker shades such as reds or plums. Eyes highlighted with black eyeliner and paired with red lipstick is one of my favourite looks. But this is strictly for night-time appearances. If I opt for dramatic eyes, I keep my lips muted. Eyebrows are an important aspect and having the right thickness and shape can help define one’s natural features – I usually correct imperfections with a powder-based colour. I love to do up my hair in curls – larger the better, and clipped down halfway. With sarees, I opt for buns.

Sonakshi Sinha

I’m a complete kohl and eyeliner person. I love to experiment with my lipsticks. I’ll try anything from a bright coral orange to a deep, sensual red. I often match my lipstick with a pop of color, be it flowers in my hair or color on my nails. The best red carpet beauty trick is of course false eyelashes. They make you feel so glamorous.

Priyanka Chopra

My make up depends on my mood and of course the time of the party. For my daily look, I must have my Bobbi Brown concealer, in Honey. There are so few that are yellow enough for my skin. Good makeup brands keep your skin healthy. I apply that where needed and then M.A.C. NC43 powder. My favorite blush is Nars Orgasm. I usually line my lips with M.A.C Spice Lip Liner and then fill in the Laura Mercier Lip Stain in Mulberry. If I don’t want to look heavily made up, I simply use The Body Shop’s lip balms. For a heavier make up I always use M.A.C. Studiofix foundation (NC 43) and Bobbi Brown concealer. But before that I use a good bit of moisturizer to keep my skin soft and supple and ready for whichever makeup I put on. Things that I carry with me at all time are Pond’s Perfect Results Multi-Benefit Cream and M.A.C. Studio Fix.

For eye lining, I like M.A.C. Teddy Eye Kohl, a bronzy brown shade. I usually smudge that into a black Armani pencil. But my most favourite cosmetic is the M.A.C. Fluidline black liner in a pot, in Black Track. I apply this to the inner rim of my eye with a firm brush, and it doesn’t move at all. It never irritates my eyes. It is great for swimming, rain or crying scenes. For those super-long eyelashes, I rely on the Eyes to Kill mascara by Armani. My all-time favourite perfumes are The One by Dolce & Gabbana and Ralph Lauren Romance. When I’m not making a public appearance, I use absolutely minimal makeup and spice it up with eyeliner, blush and lipstick. I slip on a sexy short dress and high heels, and I’m set!

Katrina Kaif

One party beauty rule I never break is never to put makeup on my skin directly. I always put ice into a muslin piece of cloth, and apply it all over the face. I also make it a point to use mineral mud masks by Anne Semoin to soothe and prep my skin before a party so I use minimal cover-ups. Similarly, to prep my hair, I use Kiehl’s Olive Fruit Oil Deeply Respiration Hair Pack. For my hair, I use Kiehl’s Leave-In Conditioner, to keep it shiny and blow-dry my hair with Kerastase products – especially their heat-protecting serum. And I always use a paddle brush on my hair – nothing else is gentler. I finish off feeling beautiful with my favourite fragrance – Gucci Rush.
