Sorrento comes to India with Chef Luigi

While our visit to Mister Chai sometime back at Shangri-La’s Eros Hotel, we were told that some new F&B outlets are underway at the property. The revamp, which started with Tamra, became the talk of the town in a short span of time. And last month, the hotel opened its doors to the new culinary destinations of Delhi, one of which is Sorrento. Let us take you on a pictorial journey of our first-hand experience of the place.

Even before entering the restaurant, you are delighted by aqua-coloured Vespa scooter on one side which signifies of a fun ride. On the other side is the life-size wine cellar which boasts of some of the finest wines from across the globe. The interiors are done by Shangri-La’s favourite Dubai-based Stickman Design. Sorrento shares its entrance with Grappa, the newly launched bar. The large mirrors on the wall help make the perspective grand. And on the extreme left is the wall which has all the kitchen tools. Sorrento, named after a beautiful coastal town in the southwest region of Italy, is a brilliant specimen of true Italian culture and Neapolitan cuisine. Chef Neeraj Tyagi, the Executive Chef and the storyteller, Shangri-La’s Eros Hotel told us that the restaurant has been created keeping in mind the relaxed and easy dining of Italians.

Though the restaurant is a part of five-star hotel but the team has churned out a place that is ideal for a casual family dining. The indoor seating is cozy and the al-fresco gives a view of the greenery of the hotel. Suveer Sodhi, Director of Food and Beverage, says Sorrento aims to redefine fine dining in town and promote family outings.

Each and every part of the restaurant is worth a frame. The open kitchen lets the aroma of floats around and makes the guests anticipated towards the food and teases their appetite. One can see their pizzas and pasta being made in the open oven. Sorrento bakes the pasta in-house as the order comes. So, one can be sure of the best pastas in town.

Last but the most important part. For any restaurant its food takes the centerstage as soon as it is served. Sorrento earns brownie points there, Chef Luigi Ferraro has come all the way from Italy to serve some authentic and rustic Italian dishes to the guests. With an experience of more than two decades, Chef Luigi along with Chef Tyagi will be crafting scrumptious dishes at Sorrento.
