Our art group is highly energised and motivated, one that embraces each new activity with enthusiasm and vigour. To be surrounded with laughter and conversation, colours and brushes, art files and paper is an amazing experience indeed!
Collectively, we have tried our hand at everything – clay-modelling, puzzle-making, tribal art, acrylic painting, fabric painting and still-life. All this has resulted in some amazing and diverse art. We have had four exhibitions that excited family members and relatives have thronged to see.
The group has helped organise one of my solo show in their gallery as well. They made sure that the decorations were beautiful, that tea and snacks were plentiful and that the chief guest was received at the main gate and escorted with respect till the gallery doors.
The only reason that differentiates this group from countless others is the fact that most members of my group have cerebral palsy which has affected their motor skills from a medium to somewhat severe degree. For them to draw, sketch, hold a brush and colour is never easy and yet they approach each task with amazing enthusiasm. In the simplicity of their thinking, there is no place for what we deem as ‘failure’. I love this approach and it keeps me motivated throughout.
It is from them that I learn the joy of activity and exploration in my own studio. I learn that no matter how tough the journey is, a smile helps everyone along the way. Working with them teaches me that limitations exist only in our own mind and because they don’t take ‘No’ for an answer, I realise that neither do I!
I invited them to be the chief guest for my latest art show ‘Jalaj’, because in my eyes there is no one more successful or deserving than them!
