Red lips are always in. Personally, I am always on the lookout for quirky shades – Yes, I don’t go for the black and blues and greens – but I do love experimenting with the reds and pinks. So when Colorbar launched its Color Circus collection, I was one of the first few to go check out the colours. And I truly felt like a kid in a circus! Such bright shades all around! I picked up two lipsticks – Diviner (shade number 007) and Enchanter (shade number 006) for Rs 850 each.

Colorbar Color Circus Magician Lipcolor is an exciting collection of lipsticks that have been inspired by the bright and vibrant colours of the Circus. This extremely long lasting range of lipsticks contains the goodness of essential oils that keep the lips plump and moisturized. Its specially treated pigments are blended well to deliver pure colour in a semi-matte texture. The packaging of this luminous range has been inspired by the Magician of the Circus. An exclusive lipstick with an unbeatable gliding quality and unique Powder Matte satin finish with tested hold of up to 8 hours*stay without smudging. With just a few touches the lips are clothed in pure velvet finish, leaving them sensual and sophisticated. This highly professional lipstick is ideal for adding an elegant, refined touch to your perfect make-up. Contained in gorgeous packaging with its distinctive lines, tickle your fancy, laugh with delight as you explore the magical range of circus-inspired lip colours. Here is how Colorbar describes this collection: “A collection of 20 shades, our Magician Lip Colors takes inspiration from the wondrous world that lies behind the circus curtain. From gleaming blues and bubbly violets to striking peaches and mischievous mauves, we’re taking lip colour as you know it, to the next level. Create magic wherever you go with these fanciful lip colours.”

The lipsticks are long lasting due to specially treated pigments that deliver pure colour in a semi-matte finish. The lipstick does not need reapplication for at least 2-3 hours after applying. Also, since the lipsticks contain Argan, Moringa, Jojoba and Castor oils along with Vitamin E, they are perfect to nourish and moisturize your lips in this weather when lips tend to chap more.

Coming to the colours, ‘Enchanter’ is a beautiful lavender pink – one of the most beautiful pinks you can ever own. It gives a fun and whimsy look to the whole makeup. The shade is great for all skin tones. ‘Diviner’ is a peachy red. Not a coral, but maybe peach mixed with coral, mixed with carrot, mixed with red. My son calls it ‘fluorescent red’ – it is that bright. The colour pops out so you can go easy with rest of your makeup. Lots of kajal and Colorbar Color Stay Lipstick in Diviner will glam you up in seconds – even when you are looking out for a daytime wear.

The texture of this range of lipsticks is like a dream. It is lightweight and yet pigmented. One swipe covers all pigmentation and you would not even need to line your lips. The finish is moist matte and within ten minutes, it would turn completely matte. Its non-drying, lightweight and does not have the powdery uncomfortable finish that makes your lips feel cakey or chalky. The staying power is something that needs to be appreciated. It survived a full course meal with slight fading from the middle portion of the lower lip. And even after the whole day, it left a gorgeous stain on my lips.

The Colorbar ColorCircus Lipstick also has a faint vanilla fragrance but it dissipates in a few seconds. It does not settle into fine lines but it is always better to exfoliate your lips before applying this lipstick.

The lipsticks had good colour pay off. The shades were semi-opaque in a single swipe (I use a single swipe for day wear and two swipes for the evening). I was very apprehensive about creamy matte lipsticks as they tend to transfer a lot. But not these! Despite being a creamy matte lipstick, it hardly transfers once it has set – yes, give it a good 10 minutes to perfectly set. The colour and pigmentation stay for at least 6-8 hours, and this is when I am including lunchtime and coffee in between.

If you want to truly stand out, these two colours are must-have in your arsenal. Go easy on the eye makeup if you are wearing these shades during the day as they really do pop! For the evenings, you could either wear colours on your eyes or make them smokey black.
