Come the hot weather and it is the perfect time to chill with a cooling mask or two. Personally, I am a huge mask junkie – it is so easy to multitask with just a mask on. So when I was sent a sample of Just B Au Naturel’s French Pink Clay Mask, my mask-lover self was doing cartwheels.
Products placed on our skin have direct entry into the bloodstream, whereas the food we ingest is first metabolised by the liver. I always am on the lookout for “food” for skin that is as pure, organic, and devoid of toxins as possible.
I had not heard of the brand, but Just B Au Naturel is a new generation of effective organic & natural skincare formulations founded on sustainable principles of high quality and environmental sensitivity. Each product is meticulously formulated using the finest, organic botanical ingredients to suit unique climatic and individual skin needs. The website says: “Born out of our love and appreciation of nature and established as a way to create awareness that helps reinforce the fact that beauty and wellness go together and should impact individuals and society positively.”
The brown glass jar of this mask (Rs 945 for 100gms) had all the necessary information – instructions on how to use it, benefits, ingredients, shelf-life etc – I like products that tell me about themselves in great details.
The key ingredient is French Pink Clay – a rather gentle clay used to cleanse and detoxify the skin and remove dead skin cells without drying your skin. It also contains hibiscus – which is referred to as ‘the Natural Botox Plant’ because it is an excellent source of alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs). AHAs are known to help exfoliate skin, speed up cell turnover, and help control acne breakouts, all of which can encourage fresher, younger, and smoother looking skin. They also increase moisture and improve flexibility and elasticity-the reason why hibiscus called the Botox plant. Now some chemical forms of these acids can be overly harsh and damaging to the skin, but natural sources such as those in hibiscus can help provide the same benefits. The other active ingredient is rose petals (yes it is crazy how most of my beauty products this season have all got roses in them!). Rose petals have highly soothing and calming properties along with hydrating and cell regenerative nutrients for all skin types, especially dry, mature, and sensitive skin. So the fine powder in the jar is 100 per cent mineral-rich clay with organic flower powders of hibiscus and roses.
So how does one use it? The instructions ask you to mix about two teaspoons of the mask with water or rose water to make a thick paste. Apply to face, let dry, and rinse off. I did the same with the first application but tweaked and added some raw milk from the second application onwards.
So when I used this mask, it was a gorgeous pink colour on my skin and dried out in about 7-10 minutes. I proceeded to wash it off – to notice that it left a pink hue on my face! I was kinda alarmed, so I used a toner on cotton wool to wipe off the stain. My friend who was staying over had no issue with the stain and slept off – the stain was gone in the morning. My skin definitely felt conditioned – and cleaner. After two uses over alternative days (where I used raw milk so the stain would not appear prominent), the skin seemed brighter and less dry and dull. I have used the mask five times in the last month or so and my skin is definitely more elastic and firm. It also seems less oily and sticky – something that most skin types become in summers.
I think I am happy with Just B Au Naturel’s French Pink Clay Mask.
