Product Review – Nykaa Nailpolish Haul

So fingers are out of the gloves and toes almost out of closed shoes and grumpy socks. Perfect time to get those tips and toes ready for summer. Since it is the peak of spring and there are flowers blooming all around, I was inspired by the lush bouganvilleas and dahlias when I bought not one, not two, but three gorgeous shades of nailpolish from Nykaa.

First things first, Nykaa is one of my favourite brands when it comes to nail polishes – simply  affordable as well as very good quality Nail Polishes.

Considering love, and the fragrance of flowers, is in the air, I bought two shades from the basic (that is anything but basic) nail enamel collection – Sweet Pea Blush (number 125) and Lilac Kisses (number 143) for Rs 179 . I also bought the Salon Pro Gel Shine Nail Lacquer in Vegas Roadtrip (number 221) for Rs 276. Here is what I thought.

Sweet Pea Blush – This is a really pretty pink shade from Nykaa’s Floral Carnival collection – bright, but not neon. This means, it is bright enough for day as well as evening wear, without being too hard on the eyes. It is a girlie shade that is also sophisticated enough to wear to work.

Lilac Kisses – This shade is also part of Nykaa’s Floral Carnival collection. Another pink, only the purpl-ish tinge makes it look so royal. It is a lovely shade that mixes the best colours you can find in a lavender, a lilac and a peony. This looks so utterly feminine it’s definitely a keeper.

For both these nail polishes, the  cream formula is quite nice, the colour payout rather good – even a single coat is enough, though the real colour is visible with two. The best bit is the brush that enables even application of the product. It really fans out to cover the entire nail in one stroke.

The other special thing about these two shades is that the formula is really high-gloss that gives the look of a gel paint. I read on Nykaa that the patented two-fold plasticizer prevents chipping and the formula also has a UV filter to prevent discoloration and yellowing. The result is a smooth and gorgeous coverage in a single coat, stunning, plumping effect in two coats! I do a significant amount of housework and after sealing the nail polish with a top coat, the colours easily lasted a week without chipping.

Nykaa Gel Shine Salon Pro Nail Lacquer in Vegas Roadtrip – I have always wanted a nailpolish that shines and stays like a gel nail polish – but the look of the UV ‘curer” always scared me. I have gone for gel manicures a few times, but each application of gel nail polish left my nails weak and yellowed. I think I may have found the solution in the Gel Shine Salon Pro Nail Lacquer by Nykaa. A huge huge fan of deep dark reds, I picked the Vegas Roadtrip shade because it was red, without being bright, and maroon, without being black. It is the perfect shade for Indian skin tones. Again, the sheer fluidity of the brush applicator blew my mind. It is just amazing the way the brush hugs the nail to apply the nail polish in an even stroke. The patented PRO-UV formula looks and lasts like a gel but doesn’t require a UV lamp or damaging removal process. The 2-coat gel formula is long-lasting, no chip and unbelievably shiny! This formula is enriched with light-reflecting pigments that deliver intense shine on application. Apparently, the breakthrough formula hardens when exposed to sun to give you a hi-shine effect. The texture is seamless and doesn’t create striated ridges on the nail. In the first coat, you get an opaque finish and intense color that dries in a jiffy. On the application of the second coat, you get a plumping gel finish that lasts for at least 14 days! This formula is designed to air-dry quickly on its own. All you have to do, is just apply each coat, wait for two minutes and apply the next.

I am sorted with my nail wardrobe for spring…about time you pick a shade that suits you too!
