A best friend’s wedding is a time when even the most fuss-free girl may want to put on a wee bit of mascara or a shade of lipstick. The celebratory mood will make you want to dress up. And it is not necessary that you pile on the makeup to look good. If trends are to be considered, the makeup mantra for this season is ‘less is more’. Internationally renowned makeup artist Vidya Tikari says that this season is the best to flaunt naturally beautiful skin. “The focus is on minimalism. So girls who don’t like to put on too much makeup and have good skin are the ones to follow,” says Tikari, adding, “This year, eyes will be in focus. So whatever you do, don’t leave your eyes bare.”
Take care to maintain a regular skincare regime that involves cleansing, toning and moisturizing. Also ensure that you eat right and hydrate you body from within because it is the general health of the body that reflects on your face. Do make sure to include fresh and raw fruits and vegetables in your diet. Nuts and seeds such as almonds, pumpkin seeds and flax provide the natural oils so essential to keep your skin naturally moisturized and impart that glow from within.
Here are a few tips and makeup suggestions by hair and makeup expert Vidya Tikari as she recommends what one could do for a morning, lunch or evening look…
1. Morning minimal look
For haldi mornings, a fresh and minimal look is evergreen. Prep up your face before the makeup starts. It helps the makeup last longer. Use a water-based moisturiser that will hydrate and keep your skin looking alive. Face primer to even out your skin tone and texture which would also help blend your makeup. Keep your eyes looking natural by using an eye shadow like an earthy brown or a similar hue on your upper eyelid. Use mascara and curl your lashes. For a natural flush, use a long lasting blush and to complete the look fills in the lips with a light colour or even a tinted balm to which would lend a fresh look.
2. A stylish look for the afternoon
To dress up a wee bit for a day wedding, add some colour to your makeup. Use a warm purplish-brown on the eye lid and smudge it on the lower lash line. Complete the look by applying eyeliner on the upper lashline and a few coats of mascara. Make your eyebrows fuller by shaping them and filling any gaps. For the lip use a lip liner and fill it in with a day colour lipstick- from the family of pinks and purples.
3. Brighten up the evening
Make the eyes look arrestive, glittery and shiny. Play around with red, orange and gold in a well-balanced manner to give an eclectic look. Deep black eyeliner and a kajal to further enhance the look and adding to a seductive and smokey look. The face should be dewy and exude a natural glow. Peach colour for your lips with a touch of gloss and you are good to brighten up the evening for a sangeet or a reception!
